Enter your new co-editors

If you check out our Manifesto page, you'll see we have two new co-editors, replacing Kenneth Mulvey and Justin Hyde, who moved on over the summer. I chose Dan Scannell and Steve Young because they've both been published in Thieves Jargon, and they both were active on the previous message board. By active I mean neither one was afraid of being critical of work published in Thieves Jargon.

Scannell's comics have been featured aplenty in Zygote in My Coffee, and I just stumbled across a terrific Steve Young story today that was published in a 2007 issue of the Evergreen Review.

Speaking of the Evergreen Review, has anybody heard of them? They were mentioned in the New York Times over the weekend, I guess the publisher made a name for himself publshing Henry Miller and Burroughs and Bukowski and all those counterculture guys in the 60s and 70s, but he also made some good money off of French spanking videos. He lost all his money, and now all that's left is the online version of Evergreen Review and this documentary about the guy that's just opening in NYC.

Just thought I'd throw it out there.

yeah, i heard of the evergreen review prolly 5-6 years ago when i was reading henry miller and all those guys. i looked for the journal and found a REALLY stripped down version of something i thought would be monumental.

I read an article about this a few days ago. Wish I could remember where. It came through on Google reader. Pretty interesting. Apparently, he was instrumental in getting Henry Miller going. Congrats to the new co-editors!

aahhh, Matt called my story terrific. Obviously a man with good taste.

Barney Rosset is the publisher. He also ran Grove Press which put out some damn good stuff.
He is also the co-editor of a killer collection I came across called The Outlaw Bible of American Literature. Some very good stuff in there. I guess there is another called The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry but I haven't read that one yet.

The guy has been around a long time. I spoke to him on the phone and he sounded like he'd already been dead five years.

I've heard of the Outlaw Book of American Poetry. Was Ron Androla in that?

Hot damn! i'm excited to hear that Dan Scannell is now a co-editor at TJ! Great choice! Not only is the New York boy a talented cartoonist but he is a damn fine poet too! So i am 100% confident he will be an asset to the TJ crew!

And holy crap! I can't believe you got former San Francisco 49er quarterback and Hall of Fame inductee, Steve Young, to co-edit! that's magically delicious!

I am WELL aware of the Evergreen Review. It was a great mag in it's time. I have numerous back issues stored away in my basement somewhere as well as the EVERGREEN REVIEW reader (1967-1973)on my bookshelf, a thick-ass collection of some of the best stuff they published over the years. I LOVE it! It is brimming over with all kinds of great poetry, plays, and photos that provide a critical and entertaining snapshot of that era.
