Is that a mullet?

That's a mullet, and a very well crafted one too.

mathers, you're one of the boys! look at that friendly banter with mr. tj press boyle... very nice. the only thing that would have made it better would have been an emoticon!

Yes, sorry about the light-heartedness...I'm in a good mood.

Okay, yeah, this is what I was talking about... you might not like the sound of punk rock (I do) or the look of structured poetry (I absolutely don't), but don't question the heart of the people who sweat over it. Just because they're interested in gay stuff like flowers or the elusive rhythm of their hearts or whatever doesn't mean there's no heart in there.

There might be heart in the person, but it doesn't always come out in the verse/prose. Especially if the person has been so beat over the head by formal education/status quo literature that they are worried about sounding just a certain way, fitting their emotions into a crafted look or impressing people with their vocabulary/intelligence/book learning. I would urge all people obsessed with craft to forget it and follow their hearts. To have a rudimentary knowledge of any language is all the craft you really need.

too much talk about heart and craft. Take your craft and shove it in your ass. Craft does to poetry and prose what religion has done to Jesus.
Heart is just something that keeps you standing when somebody is beating your ass and you should go down.
Gimme some soul, baby. Gimme some goddamn soul

Heart and soul are two words for the same thing. Kind of like "renaissance jones" and "moron".

oh mather, how i've missed you. you always make me seem so smart..!
maybe you're right, but the last time i was watching a guy get his ass beat in the 11th round, i didn't hear anybody talking about how the only thing keeping him up was soul...
and nobody ever told me muddy sounded like he did cuz of all the heart!
I Love You Mather. You have a lot of heart.

Well, Steve, this is the first time you addressed me directly since you said you would never address me directly again. What a day!

Heart and Soul and the difference between them must be a matter of semantics. I really don't know the difference between them. But, I've missed you too. Been googling but the hits keep shrinking. Like a dick in cold water, eh?

Shit, I forgot I wasn't addressing you directly anymore, mother. Oh well, I just started driving a cab so we are just like brothers now! I'm gonna continue trying to be like you too. I'm gonna start carpet bombing dull, soulless poetry all over the web! Then I'm going to become a regular on a bunch of message boards posting comments about how all the other work is sub-par, while I call OTHER writers PRETENTIOUS! Oh baby, how I love unintentional comic irony... xoxo

Great, Steve! Get rid of that stupid nickname and you're in business...

In all seriousness, Steve, I assume you're working on your novel, like everyone else. Man, when that novel comes out, then they'll see...
